Crisis argumentation during the press conferencies of government by using grice's maxims
Březinová, Markéta ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Kučera, Štěpán (referee)
Submitted bachelor thesis focuses on the crisis communication in politics and on Grice's maxims applied there. In its theoretical part the thesis analyses the terms crisis and crisis communication. It sets the criteria on which the recognition of crisis is based, as well as it offers theories on how one should create and use arguments in these particular situations. Besides that, the thesis also evaluates general argumentation skills used by politicians during unfavourable times and compare them with principles Paul Grice defined as the base for successful communication. The theoretical part hence furthermore describes Grice's maxims, as well as it monitors Czech politics in selected period and necessary context. Second part of the thesis uses semiotic analysis to examine press conference speeches of selected politicians during the government crisis in March and April 2012 and searches for Grice's maxims used there. It also notices the use of language and the character reflection in their speech. With all that, the thesis fills in the gap in Czech literature focused on effective crisis communication in politics.

Ouahdjinová, Tereza ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (advisor) ; Podzimek, Jan (referee)
Diploma thesis: Media Training - The Rhetoric for Practice Tereza Ouahdjinová Abstract English The subject of this diploma thesis is the concept of media training in current practice, with a focus on individuals who, in their interactions with the media, not only represent the face of corporate, political and other organizations but also use the media to reach the general public. Due to the media attention that is attracted by these representatives, it is crucial that they know how to comport themselves in front of the media and how to utilize it to efficiently effect the target audiences. For this reason, media training focuses on the different forms of an individual's presentation, with the main focus being on speech. The thesis makes use of the foundations of rhetoric as a theoretical background for perceiving media training, specifically in regard to the ability to speak compellingly, correctly, and with consideration so as to influence the audience. Knowledge of rhetoric is key to making convincing arguments and giving prompt responses, and is a skill that can be developed, practiced and perfected over time. Media training interlinks this knowledge with the principles and processes of how the media function and teaches how to formulate messages and what to do and do not in interaction with journalists....

The comparing of Grice's and Leech's conversational principles
Marhanová, Kateřina ; Pacovská, Jasňa (advisor) ; Mareš, Petr (referee)
The goal of this bachelor thesis is to explore Herbert Paul Grice's Cooperative Principle and Geoffrey Neil Leech's Politeness Principle and demonstrate on the basis of these findings the relationship between cooperative communication and courtesy communication by means of illustration of concrete texts. The theoretical part is a pivotal component of the thesis. It focuses in detail on the principles of the Cooperative Principle (maxims of Quantity, Quality, Relation and Manner), on the features of cooperative behaviour, on the questions of Conversational Implicature and its examples. Another chapter deals with interrelationship of the Cooperative and the Politeness Principles. The principles of the Politeness Principle (the Tact Maxim, the Generosity Maxim, the Aprobation Maxim, the Modesty Maxim, the Agreement Maxim and the Sympathy Maxim) and metalinguistic aspects of politeness are another component of the theoretical part. The practical part analyses a verbal behaviour of communication partners in the light of observance and violation of the Cooperative and the Politeness Principles by means of ten transcribed conversations. The final part of the thesis formulates which principles have prominence and which of them are shaded in these texts. KEYWORDS The Cooperative Principle Grice's maxims...
NEWSPAPER HEADLINES IN THE LIGHT OF PRAGMATIC LINGUISTICS
Zicháčková, Adéla ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (referee)
- Zicháčková Abstract In the bachelor thesis named Newspaper headlines in the light of pragmatic linguistics the newspaper healines are considered to be individual but indispensable parts of newspaper articles. My thesis presents them closely connected with the following text. I am interested in the meanings behind the words. We do not usually pay attention to those meanings but we perceive them and they influence us. There exist some hidden manipulative techniques as well. My work tries to reveal them. My thesis consists of four major chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to newspaper headlines. The second chapter is dedicated to structuralism (without structuralism we cannot continue to pragmatics). The third chapter is focused on pragmatics as well as the concepts of the Gricean maxims or intertextuality. And in the final chapter I deal with the pragmatic analysis. My thesis is based on many books and scientific articles. I analyze three daily newspapers: Blesk, Mladá fronta DNES and Hospodářské noviny.
